When we travel with our kids, we need a little space. Nothing is worse than a week spent sleeping badly because you are afraid to roll over at 2 a.m. and wake the wee ones, who are sleeping on the floor next to you. That’s why we always try to find houses with room for spreading out. We want a table to sit at. We want rooms for adult conversation as well as nooks for kids. We really relish a good washer and dryer for laundering the clothes our kids burn through at an alarming rate.

Sadler House offers something that can be difficult to find in Rockland, which is a true family house that is located just steps from downtown. At just under 1200 sq. feet, the house has three upstairs bedrooms and two full baths. Additionally, there’s a full kitchen, a living room and sun room, a dining room that comfortably seats eight people, an extra-large washer and a dryer for your use.

The house is furnished with two thermostats – one upstairs and one downstairs. These pertain only to heat and can be independently adjusted to your liking. Due to the fact that the average high even in August is only about 77 degrees (with nighttime lows generally in the high 50’s) we do not have A/C. Most guests are very comfortable but please be aware you may need to use the ceiling fans and/or standing fans we provide in unusually warm weather!

Because we’ve traveled with kids and babies, we’ve also furnished the house with essentials you may not want to pack for your infant or toddler. Read about those. The bunk room is equipped with blackout drapes so little people don’t wake up with the summer sun. We’ve been there, folks.

For the adults, we offer a few little luxuries we depend upon for ourselves. We have WiFi, to begin with. You’ll find the kitchen equipped with all the cooking items you need, but also with a Nespresso machine for those early mornings and leisurely evenings. The living room and sun room both have TVs and blu-ray players, as well as a collection of DVDs. There is a Playstation for the young and the young-at-heart, and streaming Netflix is there for your use on those rainy Maine days.

Out back, you’ll find a  large fenced yard (did you hear that, parents?) with four adirondack chairs and a four-burner gas grill available in the warmer months.

In the event that you have zero desire to cook, you can roll out the front door and you’ll be on Main Street in five minutes by foot. You can buy lobster fresh out of the water at the ferry, three blocks away when the season is right.

Because clean bedding is a priority for us, you will find your duvets freshly laundered and your beds made when you arrive. You will not need to struggle with your sheets or question the bed spread after your long  journey!

In short, whether you’re having a getaway for adults or a family vacation, Sadler House is set up to keep you comfortable, entertained, and so conveniently located that you may be able to leave your car in park for the entire week. Please feel free to email us with any questions about the features of the house!

Please note: we do not accept guest pets, but our two cats are present in the house when we are visiting. Although we clean very carefully and have no carpets we may not be the best fit for people with severe cat allergies. Please feel free to contact us with any questions about our cleaning methods or to talk more!
