Wi-Fi Password Sign For Cabins – Free Printable

I have never been the camping type, despite my long stint with the Girl Scouts. Sure, I did my share of slogging through the woods and sleeping in tents, but I’d really prefer a well-furnished cabin than a campsite by the lake. I’m a grown-up now and I get to decide!

Some would say it’s not a vacation if you take your computer. My husband, however, actually left on a ski trip once with two laptops and no clothing in his luggage, so you can see what side of the argument we are on.

Still, many luxury vacation rentals happen to channel the pleasures of cabins in the woods without sacrificing the modern conveniences. If yours is just such a cabin, I’ve got the wi-fi pun for you!

Download and print this just so you can make your guests laugh – and they will be laughing (instead of crabby and crying) because they will be able to access your wi-fi. I’m sure the Girl Scouts have some sort of “Connectivity Skills” badge, anyway.

Okay, so I’m old enough to remember saying “Surf the web.” Is that so wrong? I happen to have noticed that most of our guests (with the exclusion of the children) are also “of a certain internet lingo age.” Therefore, you must all forgive me for having a little fun with Ye Olde Wi-Fi Password sign.

Free Coastal WiFi Password Sign If admitting you remember AOL isn’t too embarrassing, and you like a good coastal joke, feel free to print as many of these as you want and hang them in your vacation rental for your guests to enjoy.

Hey – nobody is laughing at you when they urgently need the Wi-Fi is all I’m saying.

You can either print these and use a Sharpie to scrawl the password on them (all laid back-like) or you can just pop over to picmonkey.com, open this file, and use their type function to superimpose your password in our image so that it looks a little slicker. Then save the file again and print it. I found this is perfect when printed on letter size photo paper and trimmed to 8×10 size.

Vacation Rental Decor You’ll Love

Vacation rental decor has evolved.

Remember when you used to browse the listings and be faced with one house after another, all furnished with somebody’s cast-off recliner and mismatched sheets? Those houses are still out there, but there’s no reason for you to stay in one of them when there are so many owners using their great taste and creativity to create wonderful settings for your vacations.

In my time as a vacation home owner, I have met so many wonderful people who have inspiring vacation rentals in the perfect places. Tic Tac Toe Keepsake

In order to give guests the optimal experience at your vacation rental, it’s important to pay attention to those little extras. Years ago, before we had our own place, we stayed at a vacation rental in the area of Luray, Virginia. When we arrived, the owner had left us a basket of goodies, including a pound cake she had baked, herself. Between that and the generous stack of white towels, we were immediately predisposed to enjoy our stay. We felt very welcome. Tic Tac Toe Keepsake - DIY

Now that we are sharing Sadler House with guests, we try to carry on our own gift basket tradition. We aren’t living next door, so we can’t bake each guest a fresh pound cake. Instead, I’ve tried to come up with fun little crafts that our guests will find both charming and useful. We hope that these little touches and a welcome card will make show our guests how thankful we are to be hosting them.

Recently, I was scrolling through Pinterest and I came to a stop at this craft by Megan at the blog Balancing Home. The product was an adorable little tic tac toe set that was made from rocks and carried in a teeny burlap bag.

While I was reading the post, I started pondering how I might incorporate this craft into my gift baskets. I resolved to find some sort of rocks and burlap bags on my next trip to the craft store and give it a go.

Well, we all know you rarely find exactly what you’re looking for, right? Instead of the natural burlap bags, I happened upon a stack of sea foam green ones on clearance in the cake decorating aisle, of all places. I got a bunch of them for 50 cents each. The color reminded me a bit of a Tiffany box, and I hatched a plan to make my tic tac toe kit a little fancier. Here’s what I did, and I hope you love the results as much as I do! Read more →

5 Tips for a Dreamy Bunk Room

If there’s anything people on Pinterest are crazy for, it’s a bunk room.

But, seriously, why not? Bunk rooms are loved by kids and they can be enormously practical – especially in vacation homes where families are rooming together and flexible sleeping arrangements are needed. I’ve seen countless bunk bed photos pinned to boards with titles like “Our future vacation home,” and I was no different before we furnished Sadler House. When we bought our home, we identified the second largest bedroom as our own future bunk room and immediately started planning.

What followed was a series of lessons-learned that should be heeded by any future bunk room decorator, because there were some logistical issues we never anticipated. Free “No Smoking” Printable

As a vacation home owner, you are prepared for a lot. You choose furniture you can bear to part with. You ensure that your linens are replaceable and that nothing in your home is so precious that you will cry if it’s destroyed. Every devoted rental owner has to walk that fine line between providing a wonderful guest experience and acknowledging they have to be tough, because accidents and inconsiderate guests are bound to happen.

For non-smoking families, however, there is really no preparation for how upset you are going to be when a guest breaks your policies and smokes in your home. Beyond the emotional distress of finding your beloved house smelling of of smoke, there are many cleaning tasks that become necessary and which also come at great cost.

Make Your Policy (Politely) Clear

Even though I have always emphatically stated in our listings and in our rental contract that smoking is not allowed, I wanted to find a way to remind our guests of our firm non-smoking policy, even while they are staying at the house. With that said, there’s no reason to settle for a boring “No Smoking” sign when you can make something more entertaining! I had so much fun creating this one that I thought I’d offer it to anyone who wanted to have a similar sign in the beach or coastal (or just New England!) home.

Just click the link at the bottom of the page to download a png of our sign. I created it using a public domain illustration found on vintageprintable.com, which is chock full of fantastic images.

This is designed to print as an 8×10. When you send it to your printer, be sure to select 8×10 as your printing size and make sure the “fit to page” box is NOT checked.

Once the sign prints, you can trim it and frame! Voila.

Industrial Coffee Table

If someone asked me to define the style I had in mind when we furnished Sadler House, it would be tough to summarize. We wanted the house to be comfortable, yes. We wanted it to be grounded and unfussy. Most of all, we wanted it to feel fresh and light.

Have you ever gone shopping for a coffee table? Man, those can be expensive! After building the farmhouse table for the dining room, I importuned Dan to take on the coffee table. Even buying one used to refinish was looking to be much too expensive. Why not just craft our own?

While scrolling through the hundreds of tutorials on Pinterest, I came across a photo of a table someone made using wood and plumbing parts. That was it. I loved the spare and sturdy design.

All the materials we used for this table were found at our local home improvement store. If you wanted to, you could do this really cheaply using pine. We splurged a little and went with poplar, since it is more durable and has a cleaner look after being stained.

All-told, buying the materials for the table cost us about $125…although I must confess I have long-since misplaced the receipt (oops). Suffice to say, we got a beautiful new table for much less than we would have paid in a store. Read more →

Idea File: Day Out in Lucketts

Old house enthusiasts are a special breed. Nothing seems to please us more than an afternoon of spelunking through a flea market or strolling around a swap meet. It’s not surprising that, for our 10th anniversary (kid-free) date afternoon, Dan and I chose to hit the Virginia wine country, starting with a leisurely stop in the nearby town of Lucketts, which has emerged as a really inspirational place to browse for vintage and antique items of every conceivable type!

Of course, you needn’t even buy anything. Just looking around allows you to leave richer: both in funds and in ideas. One of my favorite parts of the Lucketts stores is that there are so many salvaged doors to gawk at. How amazing would it be to put these on your house somewhere? I’ve thought of them as a wall decoration. Or what about a sliding door on a barn door track inside a room with a soaring ceiling?

Divine.
